“Never go on trips with anyone you do not love,” Hemingway wrote. Travelling alone, by proxy – be it for work, pleasure, or otherwise – is a lesson in self love. The ultimate indulgence, there’s no curfew and nowhere is out of bounds. A stranger to all but yourself, you find new familiarities, fall into new habits. You sleep late, or don’t sleep at all; you order room service on a whim, stay up to read emails from half a world away. When you’re gone for a longer stretch, like we were for the SS 15 shows, you need a little help in finding the love.
Health & Fitness Travel are the wellbeing specialists to ensure your survival: dedicated to helping you find the perfect hotel or destination to keep you on track or the perfect location for a wellness retreat, they have everything on offer from stand-up paddleboarding in Maui to Ayurveda in the Himalayas. While we couldn’t find time in our schedule to jet off to a spa in the south of France, it was an urban retreat in London, at the Metropolitan by COMO, that offered us the perfect home base during fashion week and a tranquil room overlooking Hyde Park.
The Metropolitan by COMO holds true to the COMO offering elsewhere: luxury is where it’s at. Here, we found the spa, the nutritionist-designed meals and a state-of-the-art gym all in a central London location. Also: private yoga classes on demand, or for those who need a little more tough love, the option to work out under the guidance of a trainer in the gym. We opted for the Red Eye package after a night flight from New York, and, on arrival, a rebalancing 60-minute Como Shambhala massage in the spa followed by a health breakfast and relaxing in the room brought us on to London time.
